On your first few days or weeks of school, write about what you think of your new teachers, classes, people in your classes, curriculum, any changes at your school, etc. A general idea of your expectations for the year. _________________ Stacie.

Well, Im just SO into talking about this right now! My thoughts on my...
Teachers:
*My new HR teacher is pretty hilarious. She's very down to earth.... very... mommy-like? Maybe b/c she teaches the home-ec-like classes..
*Economics teacher has a speach impediment. And Im not one be mean about this sort of thing.. but it sounds like he: has no tounge, uses his teeth to pronouce words, speaks through a plugged nose. And I think most of our notes are going to be given oraly.. not too excited about that.
*Chem teacher is the same guy I had my 9th grade year.. I didnt like him then... and I dont think its going to change. and his gradeing system is one thing I CANT STAND. You get points and you're suposed to know right away what these points stand for.. gerrr...
*NOOOW My Adv Composition teacher... man-oh-man I really like this lady!! she's hilarious. Very stright forward and comfortable. (like today when she came in she just pulled a regular desk out and sat in it indian style.. then moved around the whole period. with her knees pulled up to her.. just every funky way you could think of.) She's just very herself. Which I love... About anyone, really.
*Ceramics: The new teacher... she's very.... abstract about things.... I got the impression she's very into zen and yoga.... AND SHE SOLD OUR KICK WHEELS!!! Several of us are NOT happy about this ONE BIT!
*Spanish- A very geeky guy.... Ive seen him around since he got to school a year or so ago.... he wears dress pants, a nice shirt, and a tie EVERY DAY. Very odd for our school. In the face he looks like he should be a 20something college frat guy.. then he speaks and he sounds a lot older. He's very BLAH and dry when he speaks and then out of the blue he'll say something and laugh. which I like.. but the class seems VERY boring and dry... maybe Im just compairing it to my colorful class last year...
*Math- hilarious teacher, but he kept saying how hard the class is going to be and how he gives a LOT of HW. And his grading system is kinda odd.
Only person I think Im going to have a prob with is this new girl in HR (thank goodness we only have in one day a week after this week!) She's from Cali and is very dramatic. OVERLY dramatic and kept asking me these questions about the school (I mean.. questions with answers you'd THINK someone would know! and she seemed to already know the answer, but when I answered her she was very, "OMG! REALLY? NO! I CANT BEEELIEVE THAT!" Like whenI told her, "no... you cant wear halter tops to school... well, unless they are over another shirt.." and her reply, "so... umm.. I guess tube tops are out or something?" me: yeah. no tube tops at all. Her: that is SOO unfair! We could wear them in Cali!!" OMG! I just wanted to scream "GET OVER IT GIRL!! YOU MOVED HERE! BREATHE IN THE SOUTHERN AIR AND GET OVER IT! " gaaah. then she made a comment about how she "knew she'd get stuck with a bunch of hicks" just. GAH! And her mini skirt was a BIT MUCH. geez....
curriculum changes: VERY EXCITING!! They've changed us over to an A-B grading system! So.... if a class is year long.. and you pass the first semester you automaticly get that 1/2 a credit and if you dont pass teh 2nd half of the class.. you dont get the other 1/2, but you'll have to make up JUST that half. It's a GREAT system. Im pretty exited about it.
Changes in the school:: YAY!!! They have created a "freshmen academy" within the school. (haha) it's basicly the schools way of boxing them in. (haha) They ONLY have classes on 600 hall (which is it's own building) and a little part of 400 hall. So they arent crowding the hall ways. AND all freshmen have 6th period lunch. (haha. I love this) So.. it's kind of like the 9th graders dont even exist... they are not seen nor heard from..
Other:: My lit class is a pilot class.. so no one in the school.. or county.. has ever taught it before.. and my teacher is kinda winging it, but she's got GREAT ideas with it. and we already know we'll write between 14 to 20 essays this year.. Read only prob two books.. one she'll choose and the other we will choose ourselves.. and we have a BIG FREAKIN senior project at the end of the year. All this I already knew about, but it seems like a lot now.
Annnnd... that same awesome teacher is starting a PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB!!! Imso excited. We've been trying for YEARS to start one and finally the school is doing something! She's a professional photographer.. and said she uses a lot of her photography in class.
Im pretty jazzed ... wow I wrote a lot.... ha _________________ *Samantha |

*quick side note to everyone -- i'm only quoting her because she wrote a lot. normally you don't want to quote the post above*
Annnd we're back -- I'm sorry, that's terrible! It made me smile, which is probably bad. But that really sucks. I'd probably get pissed off, lol.
And yeah, the whole concept of wearing tube tops and halters to school is lost on me. People from the west coast freak out about that.. it's weird!
AND I WISH WE HAD A FRESHMAN ACADEMY! That's awesome.
And, hey, we have a A/B grading scale, too! Very useful, I suppose..
Your lit class sounds really fun, as does photography club. I wish I had a lit class like that. So, if you had to sum up your impression overall, would you say Good or Bad? Your Myspace bulletin today sounded Bad, but this sounds Good. _________________

No, you, not YOU, you but you West Coasters, freak out about not being allowed to wear halters and tube tops. It's so.. commonly understood on the East Coast. _________________

Mid west too.
Although there are people who do. But its usually undersomething. like if a dress has a halter top they'll wear a sweater over it.
its usually so cold in the school with the airconditioning that you can't wear summer clothes to school. _________________ "Oh no, cause nice girls never move vases infront of men" |

People really don't wear tube tops at my school but some where halters. Mostly with short sleeve shirts under it. But my school doesn't have air(the building's too old. Something with asbestos) so the school is so hot at the beginning and end of the year. The only part of the school that has air is the english wing. _________________

Let's try to stay on topic, although maybe we should develop a place to discuss Rules and Regulations. It all seems relevent and of interest.* _________________

Our class rooms are cold.. well.. freezing really.
The lit class is just getting more and more amazing. I sware, this is an AWESOME class with an AWESOME teacher. We went over "our words" today... (fav word, least fav word, word you think should be taken out of the english language, word that makes you smile when you hear it, ect ect...) and we said these outloud in class discussion. (my fav thing!!) and everyone was just so open about everying. Like, it's no hold backs in there. Which I LOVE. The teacher is just awesome. I was having the hardest time with an essay (2nd one we've done so far..) and it was due a day or so ago.. I went to her today and told her how much trouble I was haveing with it and she gave me some tips and ways around the probs I kept running into. Man, it's great.
PLUS!!! With the Senior Projects she called us each up for a "meeting" to find out what we wanted to do for our careers. I told her Secondary Education. She got excited b/c I was the first she's had that wants to do that. And then she asked in what field and I told her Lit/Art... and turns out it's the exact things she wanted to do. So we sat there in the middle of the library talking about art, photography/the club she's starting, college, teaching.. just everything. Each meeting for everyone was about a min at most.. I was up there for a while before we realized OH YEAH the rest of the class has to meet. It was just so much fun
The econ class is really easy... his speech is still hard to understand, but Im catching on.... kinda. ha.
Freshmen academy is AWESOME, but I feel bad for THEM. The whole point of high school is a "pre college" to adjust you better to "the world" and make you grow up a bit. F.A. is kinda like intermediate school or something.. it's a step up from middle school, but barely. Freshmen SHOULD be around older classmen to see "this is how you SHOULD act" but now they are in their own little world and are still acting like middle schoolers. SO next year when they are out of F.A. they will... well, they'll still basicly be freshmen.... which sucks for them and the poeple who have to deal with them! HAHA WHICH SOOO WONT BE ME!!
Im now in a debate class instead of spanish 3.... I love this class it's just a lot of fun... there's a lot of speeches.. which Im harable at.. a lot of public speaking (REALLY AWFUL AT!) but this is getting me ready for the part of the Senior Project where we have to present it to a board of judges. _________________ *Samantha

so we started school yesterday. and it wasn't half as bad as i thought...for now at least.
first of all, starting next tuesday, i start my early bird class. which is just a class before school that starts at 7. which is no problem for me cuz i have no problem getting up early even though i don't go to sleep until like one or two in the morning. i'm weird i know. oh, and the class is a.p. music theory. it should be interesting.
first class in the morning is physics and i am going to LOVE this class! i can tell! the teacher is funny and cool and i love learning about this stuff. it's so awesome.
second period i have u.s. history. my least favorite class. i just don't have fun in any kind of social studies class, never have. and the teacher, i have had for three years straight, since i've been in high school. there is some fun people in the class so hopefully it won't be that bad.
third period is advanced pre calculus. it's gonna be the hardest class this year i know. but i like math and there's is soooo many people in there that i know and it's fun so far and i'm sure it'll stay fun but it'll be really hard and stressful. ha.
fourth period is band. my favorite class of course!! yes, i am a band geek but i'm still cool. =] i love our band director! he's like a second dad to everyy one in there. and everyone is friends in there mostly. and i play clarinet! and i'm pretty good if i do say so myself. we have 22 clarinets and i'm third chair so i'm doing pretty good.
and only band kids have a fifth period class in our school. because the usual class is split in half so that we can earn more credits. so for the second half of fourth, the juniors have humanities. the freshmen and sophomores have another class and the seniors usually have instrumental techniques where they just practice on there own.
yeah, i'm liking it so far. i just miss summer a lot!!! but it won't be long till next summer! =] |

That sounds like a really nice schedule. I loved physics last year. It wasn't really that hard.
Hey Stacie, do you want me to post my reactions to my classes here or on my own thread since it's not highschool? _________________ Kellie |
